If someone asked me to summarize the second volume in the Shuri series by Nnedi Okorafor, I would reply with the following quote from the end of the book: "I could now look into the distance while holding on to the present and the past...just without the hindrance of obligation." - Shuri.

The rewarding part of this volume is how it boosts the emotional confidence of the reader, even when the ending and final battle are not like that of other comic books (Marvel or DC). Shuri knows she needs to be confident as Shuri, and no one else. She is an original, and that is fine!

Whether you desired that ending or not, it is an ending (for now) to be satisfied with.

Side Note: Muti's enthusiasm and meditation techniques reminds me of Binti from Okorafor's "Binti" trilogy.

I really enjoyed this. Shuri is awesome, and I love how she is a bridge between the past and the future, family and country. I appreciate that Okorafor was dedicated to portraying the women of Wakanda, the necessity of teamwork, and non-violent solutions.

Sad that Nnedi Okorafor is leaving the series as her Africanfuturist take on Shuri is just perfect.
