Damn....after reading each poem, I let the book fall to my breast. Feeling myself come too alive, I had to look up at the muted T.V. to dull myself back down, near the flatlines where I keep myself dead. These poems tempted me to live again and feel all the consequences.
My favorite poems from this body of work: "Clinch Avenue, Knoxville, April 1994" and Newton and the Screw."
From Clinch Avenue, Knoxville, April 1994:
"Legends of Mexican Lesbian Junkies and real minorities,
the ecstasy of small concentric circles in between
the legs of women,
and the practice of schoolgirls with thick-trunked pencils,
your stories snake along the veins,
climb the twisted nameless night-blooming vine."
