I'm a fan of pirate stories and I'm a fan of Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park. This book was just "meh." The division of events at different places broke up the opportunity for building and maintaining tension. There seem to have been several climaxes in the story, and none were developed well, except for perhaps the final one, but I saw that coming from a long way off. And I'm not sure I agree that every single woman on the face of the earth during that time period was willing to sleep with anyone, just because.
Don't get me wrong, it had its exciting moments, but the negatives outweigh the good. After I finished the book, I discovered that the manuscript was discovered after Crichton's death. When works are published posthumously, I always wonder whether that would have been the wish of the author. I seriously question that here. Crichton had some fantastic characters in Jurassic Park, with some amazing suspense and thrilling adventure. It feels like he didn't come close to accomplishing that with Pirate Latitudes
