Easy read. Interesting adventure. The words chosen in some cases just seemed off (repeated bunghole references)

Non stop action. So much carnage. Great characters. Super fun adventure. Hoping for the movie.

So, so boring.  Full of stereotypes and very dull. Sad this was published after the author’s death and did not meet the standard of his other books.

A well executed pirate adventure from Michael Crichton, with great characters, heaps of adventures and a few plot twists thrown in for good measure.

A fun read, and not as beholden to facts (or at least not as obviously so) as other Chrichton books. I do wish the supernatural element had come into play sooner. The second half of the book feels totally different than the first half, as if it were taken out of adventure pulps.

I was so happy to discover that there was another Michael Crichton book, and it certainly didn't disappoint! A historical pirate tale was something new for him and me, but I definitely enjoyed the adventure. Hunter is not a despicable character, though he does some despicable things. He follows his own code and the law of the land, which in its own way is honorable. And let's face it, sometimes it is fun to root for the bad guys!

I love pirates and Michael Crichton so I was ecstatic to start this. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I felt like it didn’t live up to Jurassic Park. Most of the book is based on real stories/lore, which is cool, but I found myself not continuously engaged. It would be really good, then a little slow, then really good, then slow again. Overall not bad, but not the best. Would love for it to be a movie though!

So so. I finished it, but wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.
