A young boy creates outlandish stories about what he saw on Mulberry Street as he walks to and from school.
Quite a few racist and stereotypical illustrations / text.

Cancelled just for depictions of “a Chinaman who eats with sticks” and a “Rajah”. The Chinaman, particularly, is a fairly accurate depiction of how some Chinese men would have dressed in 1937, when this was first published.

Little bit racist, and sexist too. Huh. Still a good picture book

This book shows us the power of imagination as our hero builds up his story about what he saw on Mulberry Street. I enjoyed watching the story grow with each page and seeing his very sound reasoning for why he was making such changes. It's not my favorite Seuss book, but I also liked it a lot more than I originally expected.
For: readers who want to explore their growing imaginations.
Possible red flags: some readers may see the hero's story as telling lies and may not wish to encourage that behavior.

The story here is simple and straightforward, but very effective. The chaotic energy in the accompanying illustrations perfectly reflect Marco's vivid imagination.
