William McInnes is a Redcliffe born actor/writer and this was kind of part autobiography, part memoir, part memorial to his dad, part slice of life non-fiction. There isn't a great deal going on in the book, but it's a wholesome series of stories about William's life growing up in Redcliffe and the relationship he had with his father. As I listened I could picture the places he described and a lot of them I've actually been to, which is an odd change of pace compared to the fiction I normally read. It's a story of a simple life with simple pleasures, and for me it was very relatable.
It's not for everyone, William hams it up a fair bit for the audiobook, putting on voices and accents, but for anyone who grew up on the north side of Brisbane, the short anecdotes about Redcliffe in Summer are a nice bit of nostalgia.

Hilarious, nostalgic, heartwarming, deeply moving. The bonus was hearing it read by the author; his timing is perfect!
