So my friend sold this book to me as a romance and I just don’t see that. It’s an interesting book and there are some relationships you can interpret as romantic, but they’re not good or healthy relationships. However, just reading it as a study of the Victorian era is much more fulfilling than scouring for a romance. Lord Henry is a fascinating character; he’s one of my favorite parts of the story not because he is a likable character, he is literally the worst. The story is also interesting and the ending is perfect for the story.
Although I enjoyed the book, it was only because I could put aside my dislike for Oscar Wilde and the misogynist parts of the book. The writing is beautiful, but every once and a while the fact that pretty much every woman character is an idiot or hated kinda just hit me in the face. It was also difficult to read about a young beautiful boy with my understanding of Oscar Wilde’s history.

Amazing read

One of my favorites. The vivid imagery will keep you from putting this down. Will be buying a hard cover for our Home library!

I can now see why everyone likes this book! It’s been on my tbr for so long and I’m so glad I picked it as my last read of the year. There was so much going on and I really enjoyed reading it and I know that I will be rereading this book again and again.

I haven’t read this for a long time but I really enjoyed it. Orwell really paints a picture (so to speak) and give a surreal sense of self reflection. Plus it’s hella gay.
