This was an epic read. Epic in the sense that it was long and that it spanned a lifetime of the character. I did like this installment better than the first, but it could be because the audio is read by Bahni Turpin, who makes everything better! I have read a lot of books featuring African lore/mythology and can see connections between this book and others. I look forward to the final book being published in the future.

Fabulous installment from James. This book had an even more interesting story and plotline than the first. I liked Sogolon's story and how much she went through to survive. She was an anti-hero.

Writing style really didn't work for me - choppy and completely ungrammatical. From experience, I know I just can't get into books written like this so called it early.

I'll be happy to just read the reviews herein. Tried the Leopard one and had to put it down. I could get through some of the violence against
children, but pooping in someone's mouth was the last straw. So, I'll be waiting for your reviews...Cheers to all who wish to be f*!ked up by his (brutal) storytelling.

So comparative to my reading the first, and listening to this one I found that listening made me capture the characters in a greater capacity. I was happy to learn more about Sogolon and why she was the way she was. I was excited to read when it got up to the point where she meets up with Tracker et al

Again, another beautifully written book. Despite being the 2nd book in this trilogy is can be a standalone and/ or read before reading black leopard red wolf.

This book works well in the context of the trilogy and the whole story it is trying to tell.

I got 2/3 or 3/4 of the way through the book.
I had to return the book, but also, it was less about the characters and more magical but in a way that was harder for me to stay engaged.
