Cushman does a really good job of capturing daily medieval life. Birdy is the only character who doesn't feel truly medieval (she feels very modern), although I did like seeing the world through her eyes.

Read when I was a kid, and re-read this year during my lunch breaks. It's a fine wee tale; Birdy is a spunky realistic character even if the setting and tone may be inaccurate. I figure this got more than a fair few kids interested in Medieval History. The kind of book I'd like to pass down to my own kids, should I ever have some.

I love Birdy's curious nature and her desire to learn. I'd have adored this as a kid.

Always enjoy Karen Cushman's writing. The second book I have read by her. As good as the first. Classic.
