Geston’s writing is exceptionally good. I often just pause to marvel at his skill. I loved ‘Lords of the Starship’, but this one didn’t grab me as much. The first half carries along at a nice clip, but the second half is a bit of a slog. I found myself skimming, which is unfortunate given how skilful Geston is at evoking an almost palpable sense of melancholy and futility in nearly every paragraph. Still, it’s worth a read!
