I enjoyed this. Hard to describe. But considers issues of gender and race. Illustrated through lives of some famous artists, writers, icons. Lots of aspects to reflect on. I'll definitely be looking to read more books by Margo Jefferson.

The Willa Cather chapter is wonderful. The rest I’m not so sure about.

Jefferson is poetic in her prose, and I found myself sad when I got to the end of this, wanting more. Will have to read her other books- makes sense that she won a Pulitzer!
