Great characters; weak plot

This book is filled with great characters. Clarity is fantastic as the main character, and I fell in love with her.

Which is good, because she carries the book.

The book starts off strong, and then peters out as it tries to develop its massive cast. The diversity of characters and different experiences of life is good, but the book is too introspective to pull it off: instead of developing the characters, we spend our time in Clarity's mind.

The cast then becomes unwieldy. Kweh pulls a Judy Winslow and just disappears, and T'resso gets about two lines.

That said, a lot of the new characters are great: Teya, Oksana, and Zephyr all made me fall in love with them. And most of the wonderful characters from the first book are back.

The only issue is that, a bit of foreshadowing aside, the plot only really starts 60% of the way through the book. And so, we spend a bit too much time in Clarity's head, and a bit too little time exploring the other characters or moving the plot forward.

Still, 4 stars because there's almost nothing out there like this book, and I loved it.
