I wasn’t expecting this book to be so heavy. It really hits home how to not take people for granted in your life.

I liked how honest Liam is and how he asks for time and space to make a choice that worked for himself and for Joel and Evie it was more real than a lot of romance books get and I appreciated it.

Joel and Evie are an amazing pair she is lucky to have such a wonderful father.

Again loved the narration and the fact that he has the accent of the characters. It makes the story so much more interesting when the voice matches.

I was surprised at the pacing of this read, as it felt that the romance was left to jump in towards the end - but I am glad that the previous relationship was not cast off without emotional turmoil.

Nothing special. I enjoyed it during reading but the story didn't last in my head after finishing.

Jay is re-releasing this with a new cover so I'll be re-reading and reviewing that version :)

When I heard Jay was publishing this one with a new cover I was really happy as its the first of his books I ever read and it remains a favourite.

It's a super sweet and relatively low angst romance about a guy who's muddling along quite nicely when his world gets turned upside down.

Joel does out himself through the wringer a bit but I loved how Liam wasn't just a walk over and did make Joel have to work at fixing his mistake.

I also liked how Dan wasn't an arse, just a bit too young to be making lifetime commitments and how Evie was as by an uber super child but acted like a nearly four-year-old.

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

In just her second published work, Jay Northcote masterfully captures the dynamic complexity of human emotion across a broad spectrum of situations. The Little Things is a touching story of life, love, and loss, not to mention changing course when things don't go quite according to plan. Readers will enjoy more than just the romantic love developed between partners; Northcote also showcases a love for family and friends that's essential to existence. It's easy to forget just how much people crave and thrive on different types of affection.

As a romantic at heart, I really enjoyed how Northcote captures the elation of a new relationship and the first stages of love. She carefully balances that with the terror of committing to someone so wholly and completely. Joel struggles with letting anyone in and guards his heart carefully, and I guess I can understand why. Anyone who's suffered the hurt and heartache he has would proceed with caution - he has much more to consider than just himself.

I really enjoyed this story and truly loved the characters. Joel has been through a lot with his strained relationship with his father after coming out and losing his mother so young he has a hard time believing someone will stay. Then when he unthinkable happens and takes his daughters mother everything changes for him. His relationship he has goes doen the tube and his sole focus is Evie his 3 year old daughter. He just can't set himself up to lose someone again so he closes himself off. The night of the accident that takes Evie's mom Joel meets a man at the hospital that helps him when he completely breaks down. Then fate pushes them back together a little while later when Evie gets sick. Liam is a nurse and all around good guy. He has been severely jaded in his past but does not let that dictate his future, and the future he wants is Joel. I really enjoyed these characters

Just lovely. My first book by this author and I settled into the writing style seamlessly. Wonderful flow and a bit of delicious angst. I will be back for more.

I truly enjoyed reading this book. It did all of the things a good romance usually does for me. It made me laugh, it made me cry and it made me give a totally happy sigh at the end.
