Oh Ick! This book was just such a cookie cutter Highlander romance that I couldn’t keep interested in it.

It started out all right with two men standing before King Henry II, pleading their case against each other. The king, tiring of people on neighboring lands fighting each other all of the time, decides to let Draven of Montague, the fourth earl of Ravenswood take custody of the Hugh’s daughter, Emily. I couldn’t find Hugh’s surname though he was definitely some sort of nobleman who lived in a castle and had lots of land.

As I read on, I even laughed as Emily puts a chicken up to a man’s lips who is trying to force a kiss from her. But I lost interest after Draven goes to collect Emily. Draven is supposed to be a hard-core man with some sort of curse on him which, of course, the author milks the mystery of the curse for all its worth but Draven can’t seem to keep his mind off Emily and it is kind of pathetic. It is like he has never seen a woman before. I couldn’t see what was so different or great about Emily except she was spoiled, bossy and desperate for a husband but Draven couldn’t keep his mind off of her.

When I really lost interest was when Draven and Emily went to a man named Orrick’s home so that Draven could pour over his books because the king suspected him of cheating him and Orrick’s son arrives between two brutes. His son calls the two men who are holding him Fric and Frac instead of Fritz and Frank which were their real names. It would have been hilarious except for the fact that the term “Fric and Frac” didn’t even come into existence until the 1930s when two Swiss skaters joined a comedy tour. The historical accuracy went down the toilet with that remark.

The story really didn’t have much substance to it so I quit reading it at about halfway through.

Emily was the highlight of this book. She was very spirited, so it's obvious she wasn't meek and shy. She knew she wanted Draven from the beginning and she fought for him (often against him) tooth and nail. Draven could have been a wonderfully tortured hero, but something was missing. I couldn't quite connect with him and what a shame that was. Still an enjoyable read, though,

I thought the premise of the book was kind of boring. Emily's insistence that Draven de Montague should marry her even though he was trying to honor the promise he made to the King made me uncomfortable. This book reminded me of old [a:Julie Garwood|6251|Julie Garwood|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1414607796p2/6251.jpg] books.

4 stars!

This book was really good!!!!!! I needed a good read after the horrible book I read before this. I heard great things about this one so I thought I'd give it a try! I was not disappointed at all! Anyone who knows me knows I like my tortured heroes and Draven was exactly that. He needed love to heal and he found that in Emily. She was such a fighter and she was fearless...also resilient! She never gave up on the belief that Draven was a great man who deserved love and who had love within him. They were so cute and I did really like the book. MacGregor's writing is amazing and I look forward to reading the other books in this series.
The reason I'm not giving this five stars is because she was a little pushy when trying to win him over which kind of got be mad but she won me over many times in this book for it to affect the rating too much!

At first it was a bit frustrating with Emily chasing Draven all around but eventually MacGregor made up for it. I really loved how things ended up between them, even though it was a bit obvious who is evil and who is not.

This was so much fun! I’m so glad I stumbled across this book. I absolutely loved Emily’s character. I related to her so much. I loved that she was cheery but fiercely stubborn. Her honesty was really endearing as well. She and Draven were so great together. I loved reading his perspective.
