a little hard to follow at times and all the different perspectives were unnecessary but intriguing plot

Definitely different, but I enjoyed it!! Now to book 2, Stay Dead. I have already read that there is 11 years between book 1 and book 2. If you think you're missing a book - you are not.

This is more of a 3.5 stars than a solid 4.

I enjoyed this book, mostly, because of the characters. Elise and David make for a good partnership, which I’m assuming appears in subsequent books in the series. The other characters are also very enjoyable making this book very entertaining.

As mysteries goes, there isn’t many twists and turns or even suspense. Not of high quality anyway. You might be surprised by the ending, but in hindsight, it makes complete sense, and it should’ve been obvious.

There are certain parts that don’t make much sense, and side stories that are there more for character building than for relevance to the main plot.

If you don’t have anything else to read, and you’re into mysteries, you can give this one a shot.

I do appreciate a Southern Gothic tale that blends flawed humans with the supernatural... add in a serial killer and I'm hooked! Part of the Kindle Unlimited catalog. Part of the Kindle Unlimited catalog.

This book just felt like it was in a rush. The character development was fairly flat, and sparse in some regards. Nothing felt thoroughly examined. I always felt like I was missing something, partially due to the fact that the author used multiple POVs, but all third person, which was a bit disorienting, but then the chapters/segments were so short that you never really got to know any of the characters.

And to top it all off, the mystery was not very good and the twist was so-so. There wasn't a good balance of the folk magic versus detective stuff, so both aspects felt flat to me. I really wanted to like this book; I loved the Savannah witches series so I was eager to return to literary Savannah, but Frasier's glimpses were fleeting and unsatisfactory. I'd been tempted to buy these as an Amazon Kindle deal, but now I'm glad I read it on unlimited instead.
