Aww.. Who knew Hunter was such a shy boy around girls before.

This novella was pretty good. I really like Hunter so it was nice to get a little sneak peak at his beginning, before meeting the elemental brothers. I also liked the fact we got to experience his father before he died. The lessons and situations that were taught to Hunter by his father in preparing him for what lay ahead. I almost wished it was a little bit longer. I didn't really feel that "fulfilled" feeling as I ended up with more questions at the end then I did at the start.

Oh well, good enough reason to keep on with the series right?!

Pretty good, but too short and uneventful for more than three stars.

This novella gave us some background on Hunter and, almost more importantly, insight into the Guides and how they think, etc. It was a good story, but I didn't feel as connected to Hunter as I would liked to have (and Clare isn't a character in any of the other books, so I didn't really have enough time to really feel invested in her either). I think maybe the novella could have been a little bit longer to help establish those connections, but I know that this was really supposed to just be a quick book to whet our appetites for book #2. In that way, it was successful.

It's been a while since I last visited this world, only really having read the first novella and story. I wanted to pick this up to job my memory in the hopes I get to the next book soon.
Fearless was a quick read but I did like getting a glimpse into Hunter's life before we see him in Storm. Seeing how his home life is was not something I expected, and part of me did feel sorry for what he Dad was telling him. I liked seeing the relationship develop between him and Clare, and I would like to see if anything else becomes of it as the series continues.

"Fearless" is a short story all about Hunter! Just like "Elemental", this one takes place before the big incident that we already know about from Storm. It shows what happened leading up to the car accident that killed Hunter's father and uncle, but ends just before the car ride. So, we don't get details of the actual accident. I like and don't like this. I kind of wish that we got to see exactly what happened.

Hunter's character in this story surprised me. He seems kind of insecure about himself in "Fearless", but he always seemed so confident in Storm. I thought he was so sure of himself and had plenty of confidence until reading this. I guess you never know until you read from his perspective!

There's an explanation in this story that actually helped me to understand Becca better, even though she's not in "Fearless". I don't want to say what, though, in case you haven't read Storm yet!

Oh, and look what Hunter's dad said while referring to the Merrick brothers:

"There's nothing safe about this one. Not from what I'm reading. These could be four of the most powerful Elementals to surface in years."

Go Merrick boys!!

So after reading [b:Spark|12977172|Spark (Elemental, #2)|Brigid Kemmerer|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1329524396s/12977172.jpg|18135995] again I decided to reread the whole series because it is awesome. However I decided to read it backwards for fun.

I'm not big fan of Hunter so I was fairly annoyed when I had to read a book of his instead of one of the other brothers. It did give me some insight when I moved onto [b:Storm|10401084|Storm (Elemental, #1)|Brigid Kemmerer|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1325995724s/10401084.jpg|15305022] with the "use them before they use you" mantra.

I'm still not a big fan of his and I am interested to see if [b:Spirit|13494365|Spirit (Elemental, #3)|Brigid Kemmerer|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1329824066s/13494365.jpg|19036077] will change my mind.

I don't really understand the point of this book for now, but I guess everything is made for a reason! I'll see in the next ones!
