A strong 4.5 actually. Story is about family, legacy, courage, strong unconventional women with plenty of tension, suspense and foreboding. Told in three narratives and multiple timeliness: Altha in 1619, Violet in 1942, and Kate in 2019. This story is beautifully written. A simple, easy to read, captivating slow burn. This is the authors debut novel. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future. (Check the trigger warnings.)
