WARNING SPOILER ALERT!

I am still really enjoying this series though have once again discovered I have missed part of the storyline due to a cross-over with Guardians of the Galaxy so will need to go back to that to find out what happened to Jean Grey!

Once again the original x-men find themselves battling with the evil brotherhood of mutants from the future but this time minus Scott Summers (apparently he discovered his father isn't actually dead and is infact a space pirate - see why I need to back track!!!). This immediately sets alarm bells ringing - didn't most fo them die in the last bind-up? Well, they did. But apparently they discovered the magic of post, sent themselves a warning the day before they depart in the future and therefore get a second pop at the displaced rascals. While this is interesting I do worry this could just repeat indefinately. Which would be frightfully dull. Unfortunately this bind-up ends with the lead-up to the third repetition, yawn.

On top of this there are two revelations; the first Charles Xavier slept with Mystique and created Charles Jr (ugh is there anyone this woman didn't sleep with without using a condom?? How many kids does this woman have??) and the second is OMG! theres no actual evil brotherhood of mutants from the future, instead its just an insane Charles Xavier Junior controlling them is a bit mmm especially considering one of them is Jean Grey who is supposed to be hilariously powerful and his trump card. Plus if he is doing all that I have no idea how he can possibly have enough power left to actually attack anyone. His power levels seem a little far-fetched. GG marvel - once again creating characters that don't seem feasible to defeat.

I am interested to see what happens - Jean Grey's storyline has once again been given a good jiggle - but do worry this could all end up just getting a little bit silly and repetitive.

For every really great moment in this installment, and there were some really great moments (such as Cyclops and younger Jean finally having a moment to talk, Laura and Angel bonding, and pretty much everything that happens between Emma and Jean), there was another Battle of the Atom rehash (seriously guys, we just did this last volume), and a perpetual time travel loop thing wirh Xavier's crew is just annoying.

Too much of the volume is taken up with a big fight with the time traveling brotherhood, but the last issue is pretty good. Young Jean and Emma bond, and Laura and Young Warren start dating.

Wow. That was. Amazing. Weird. Confused. And yet it basically worked. The writers and artists managed to capture the confusing pretty darn well. Mostly with different styles of writing and art. Throughout it's not clear what actually happened. Or how many different time-streams we saw. But all in all good and believable. Special highlight is the Kitty and Peter's relationship in two pages of bad art cartoon. Emma forcing Jean to fight her by showing images that Jean would want to block. Kitty talking to Peter Quill by hologram. X-23 as always awesome from beginning to end. 4.5 of 5.

2021 Summer (July);
Reread of Baby!Jean Arc

Most of these were read in a blur of summer bliss in a hammock in a backyard garden as I finally followed up on my original reads of the baby!Jean storyline that I'd gotten half into before falling out of again. I really do continue to love this storyline mostly for her.

++the opening consequences with beast
-not a fan of the weird differentiation in art and strange flow midday through the first issue
-over the future brotherhood peeps
?? X-23&Angel? Huh
-future baddies plan seems kinda dumb tying it all to one Mutant and acting like it hasn't been tried before...when it has (Messiah complex storyline was kinda alllllll about that)
++past Bobby still rocks
++Emma and Jean moments
++Old Scott and Jean moment
