The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black

The Coldtown near Tana is the most impressive since it's where they broadcast the party. When Tana wakes up and discovers everyone at the party died in vampire attack last night she drives with the two "survivors" she finds to that Coldtown and picks up some strays along the way. She crosses the barrier into Coldtown herself to confront the reality inside the walls: barter systems and chilling violence. Even the vampires don't always survive.

Some old tropes with a new twist. This vampire story takes a second look at some of the plague and vamp stories we've seen before and adds some post apocalyptic grunge and glamour.

Ehhh. I wanted to like this because I've heard a lot of great things about it, but it was more of a disappointment to me. Some of the things that happened were just so illogical. Like, for example, biting her tongue to make it bleed before kissing a hungry vampire (really? I've bit my tongue many times without bleeding... and does she have a death wish? Come on!). I'm also not a fan of non-linear stories. This is a me thing, but I find that it yanks me out of the story to be jumping back in time every other chapter.

This was an original sounding idea, and really, the story itself was fairly original. I just couldn't really enjoy myself while reading it.

Audio- great narrator. I loved this tale of vampires and segregation. The vampires are not sparkly loving dead angels, these biters are viscous and manipulative beasts. There was a real life quality with the characters, I could believe in them.
The story follows a young girl who wakes up to find everyone around her dead. She finds one human survivor and one vampire in need of rescue. She risks all to save them even if it may kill her. The nice twist, she does it smartly, she protects herself first saves them second. (what a concept huh ?) Her attempt did not go as planned and now she's headed for Coldtown a segregated area for vampires and infected people. The media has shown it to be a glamorous place but reality is often different. She is lied too, forced to watch friends die, is stabbed in the back, has to make a terrible decisions, and does it all with her head held high. She is willing to pay the ultimate price.
Yeh, I liked her. I liked her shady companions and I really like Gavriel. I look forward to book 2, and hope they go a hunting.

Holy moly, people! This books was crazy from the very first sentence of the book to the end! This was probably one of the darkest vampire books and not for the faint of heart because it had a ton of gore and blood.

Was a fan of Tana and I wasn't surprised with the ending and what she decided to do. Jameson and Valentina were probably my other characters (is there a term for them?) that I wish they talked more about.

I wasn't a fan of the current/present chapter and then switching to a flashback. Some of the flashbacks I wasn't really interested in so I would skim those quickly. I wasn't crazy about some of the book because I felt there were parts that I wish the author didn't include that kind of dragged the story-line.

I found it interesting that the author kept the book very modern and didn't turn it into a dystopian plot.

I love the cover, not really sure what I thought might go along with the book but still really interesting.

Excellent gritty vampire book. I enjoy the world that she created!
I did find Tana annoying in the beginning (she does get better). Aiden is insufferable throughout. Gavriel is interesting though!
