I was a little worried about how the series would wrap up after the weak previous volume, but the story finished off strong. The series has always shone the best when the story is being told from Luke's perspective. Throughout the book there were references hearkening back to the first book, Among the Hidden, and the start of Luke's journey. I only wish we could have heard more from some of the other shadow children we followed throughout the series: Trey, Nina, Matthias. It also would have been cool to have Luke actually get to return home to his family.

Amazingly satisfying to finish the series that I started reading as a child. While not my favourite instalment of the series it brought everything to a satisfying conclusion. I adore this author and her writing style she has never let me down!

This was a fun series to read. Kids in impossible situations who make choices to go beyond themselves and save society along the way. I sometimes had trouble paying attention to the timelines in the stories but it didn't prevent me from following the story.

Not 100% satisfying end to an interesting series.

Bummed by how easily the Population Police fell.

There was never a dull moment in this book. I'm so sad that there are no more in the series. Loved the entire series as a whole. Definitely recommend!

Read to child. We both enjoyed. We have now finished the entire series. This was recommended to us by a friend who gave us the whole series. We really enjoyed these books. We liked how they transferred between different characters. We liked the dilemmas they faced and decisions they made. We discussed if we would have made the same decisions.
I thought it interesting how media and propaganda was shown to so easily sway opinion, without people even realizing the lies. The hate that grew from that unwarranted, baseless. "Look over there"... and it worked. Lots to discuss with my child through these books.
I had never heard of this author nor these books prior, but I have seen this author's name more than once since.
I'm surprised these are not movies yet.

I was hoping for a more satisfying ending with everyone working together. Instead we just see Luke by himself and going a bit backwards in terms of deciding if he can fight for freedom. It was a likeable enough conclusion.
