My nonchalance for Us against you came as a surprise, being a Fredrik Backman's fan. As with previous Backman's installment, I kinda expect confusion for at least half of the book, then the unexpected attachment for most of the characters. It didn't happen here (or at least not as powerful). Loads of things happens, but a constant pause after an event or two wore me out, and does a climax even exist? The casts of Beartown are well-built, but I suppose that book featuring too many characters (i.e the whole town) is not my preference.
Regardless of my pet peeves, Backman did a great job of observing humanity at its core, having discussed difficult themes: the aftershock of rape, the persuasion of dream and family/community values.
Maybe when my attention span and anxiety improve, I would enjoy this book better. But right now, 3 stars.

honestly this could have been a five star read, it almost was but there were just too many scenes that felt like they were there just for shock value.

Sequels often don’t live up to the first installment. This one did.
Graphic: Death of parent, Violence, Sexism, Death, Car accident, Homophobia, and Outing
Moderate: Suicidal thoughts, Alcohol, Injury/Injury detail, Fire/Fire injury, and Alcoholism
Minor: Rape
