This book is really sweet, and the diverse, colorful, and vivid illustrations are lovely. There is a lot going on in all of the pictures, but they primarily center around a white boy and a Black girl who are friends, focusing on their different experiences together. The text explains about what friendship is, how to be a friend, and why friendship is so incredibly valuable.
This was in the pile of possibilities for our friendship storytime theme at the library. I chose not to use it, since it was too wordy and complex for the babies and toddlers, but if I had been reading just to preschoolers or kindergartners, I would have gravitated towards this. I definitely enjoyed it on a personal level, and I got choked up at the end. I had been thinking that morning about one of my best friends, since it was the sixth anniversary of a significant experience with her, and this book hit home when I was already feeling nostalgic.

This book does an amazing job at teaching about the importance of friendship and how to be a good friend. It also has so much representations from people of all different cultural backgrounds to couples that aren't cis-het. This was a sweet book, and a good book to read to a young person who is beginning to make friends.
