This was a slow-paced, somewhat psychological mystery where everyone seems a little on edge and everyone acts like they have something to hide. It went on a little too long for me, but I did appreciate the neatly explained solution. As is the case in the best mysteries, it was left in plain view for the reader to put together if inclined, but so buried under everyone's personalities and personal problems that it's very unlikely you'll catch on.

This was very enjoyable- I love these British Library Crime Classics. The reason I gave this only 3 stars was because MacDonald seems so wooden. Maybe if I read other books by Lorac, I’ll pick up on MacDonald’s personality, but in this book Detective Inspector Reeves is the more interesting character.

Really a good read: a murder disguised as suicide, and then all kinds of tricky motives and minds and loyalties to get through on the way to the solution.
