While certainly less novel than Alloy of Law, Shadows of Self is still an exciting and interesting story in the Mistborn world. Shadows of Self does a lot more to expand on the world and leaves a certain intrigue into the future of Scadrial that left me excited for more. I would say that the main plot of the book was a little less fun than Alloy of Law, but not bad by any means. Definitely a must-read if you're invested in the Cosmere!

Another satisfying entry in the Mistborn saga, with an intriguing plot, plenty of twists, and some much-needed depth added to its charming cast of characters. Thankfully improves a bit on balancing grounding exposition with fast-paced action. My sole complaint is that
Spoilerthe "I hate you, God!" development on Wax's part is sudden and kind of a tired trope. I hope he grows out of it soon.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Shadows of Self is definitely your standard Sanderson “middle” book. You have all the great trappings that make a great story with interesting characters and callbacks/entrances of characters-past. Yet, there seems to be something missing that would ultimately elevate it from just mid-level to say something like the first Mistborn novel etc. The definite stand-out here for this Wax/Wayne adventure seems to be the hellbent villain Bleeder. Every time Bleeder was either talking or a part of the action I could just feel Sanderson pouring a tragic story onto the page for all to see. And boy was I right! I would be lying to you if I said that I wasn’t misty eyed by the time this book came to a close. Another banger for sure!
