It was interesting to see what the author thought the climate of Los Angeles would be as opposed to how it actually is.

Headline: Will we face the reality or run from it?

Plot: After losing her father to suicide, Vic tries to navigate the loss and life in a warming world where she won't live long and healthy enough to become an adult.

Likes: I really liked the major discovery and plot twist in the story. We can connect to the main characters, their fate, and their suffering.

Dislikes: None.

Recommended audience: I think anyone who enjoys short stories will like this one. It might resonate closer with women.

Rating: I give it 5/5 stars, it's very well written.

This is probably my favorite of the Warmer collection. I may increase my rating later, but I genuinely enjoyed this story regardless of if it's 3 stars or 4.

I expected these to be more about the changes to the planet, but they're more about how humans are. To some extent, how we remain the same.

I liked this story but wish there had been more detail about "kids" or future generation and what the mystery condition was that ailed them. It felt very unresolved, where other issues were resolved, at least for this girl's story.

Tucson, 141 degrees... yeah, I'm sold, that sounds about accurate!

Vic (13) is growing up in a destroyed world where the climate sucks, there's barely any water, and somehow her shitty father still finds a way to explore 'polyamory' and ditch their family when convenient. But the story itself is a really great one about a young woman trying to find her place in the world and figure out what happened to her father's mistress in the wake of him committing suicide. I liked the dystopian setting in this story, as well, as it made 'sense'.

I didn't intend to listen to this book yesterday, but I needed something to listen to on my run and this was waiting for me on my phone. Clearly I need situations like this to happen more often, because I ended up really enjoying this little story about a girl finding her way in a really terrible world filled with too much heat, not enough water, and adults who aren't handling things any better than she is. I wasn't sure about the narrator at the beginning, but I think she really brought a lot to the telling of this story.
