More of the story is revealed, and it sure feels like we're headed toward a sweeping, world affecting, war. There's trouble in the North, trouble in the South, and trouble at home for everybody. This series is still really engrossing for me. I'm not sure if it's Moon's writing style, the voice of the characters, or what, but I really get sucked into the events and what's going on.

I love Elizabeth Moon's fantasy works. She writes the most REAL fantasy of anyone I've ever read. And she gets female characters believable and right. Start with the Paksennarion books, then move on to these (Paladin's Legacy). I find myself getting tired of long series of books and hungering for a story with a beginning, middle, and end in a reasonable amount of time.

That said, I just finished this one and have the rest of the series waiting on my To Read shelf. :D

4.25 or 4.5/5 - overall was an awesome book that I could barely put down, but wasn't a big fan of the romance drama at the end. Plus a couple things that didn't make sense at the end, like when
Spoiler Kieri suspects there's an assassin running around the palace and then decides there's suddenly time to take a bath...?
. Otherwise, continued the great intrigue and pacing of the previous book.

Either book 2 of series 3 or book 5 of series 1 (Deed of Paksanarrion). The Paks series is about as good as epic fantasy gets. This was more of just a friendly visit from an old friend, rather than a dramatic victory of a book. Still, a quite enjoyable read (4 of 5).

I'm a HUGE fan of Elizabeth Moon, love the complexity and the believability of her worlds, and this second book in the Paladin's Legacy trilogy was no disappointment. In fact this is the second time I've read it - in preparation for reading Book 3 - and it held up beautifully. Wonderful characters, a fine understanding of both trade and warfare and gorgeous writing.
