Singer and songwritter Rhett Miller has formed this collection of childrens poems that remind me of Giant Children by Brod Bagert-I think middlegrade kids would love these silly and "gross" poems that are hilarious to both adults and kids alike. Defintely one to read aloud.

There's been some controversy about one of the poems in this collection, "Brotherly Love." I've got to admit that I think it's a riot, but I love it as an adult. I do think it's not quite the poem to be included in a book of poetry for kids from 7 to 10, and I'm really surprised that the editor didn't think about all the parents (and teachers) that might potentially be up in arms about a poem that tells some pretty descriptive ways to kill your sibling....smothering with a pillow, dousing with gasoline, drowning by dunking three times...

All the poems are really funny. He borrows freely from Shel Silverstein, at least two of his poems are direct knock-offs - which I enjoy a lot. We all have mentor texts from which we write."The Bathtub's Too Small" is a longer retelling of Silverstein's "Crowded Tub" and "My Homework" is definitely a reworking of Silverstein's "Sick." Great fun.

Of the 23 poems, only a couple have a rhythm that doesn't quite work for me. All in all, they're funny, well-written, clever, and just plain fun!

This book of poems called, NO MORE POEMS! by Rhett Miller and illustrated by Dan Santat was published in 2019. Each page is filled with color and imagine that help to picture the poems essence. This book had many fun poems about struggles of the young. Some were about hair, some were about pets, and some were about baths, but no matter which one you read you were sure to find a rhyme. I think a great use for this book would be to teach writing poems and rhyming patterns to 2-4th grade. Some of the poems have many stanza's which would be cool to break down as a class and discuss techniques of the author.  I personally greatly enjoyed reading these poems and look forward to sharing the fun.

There are some cute poems in this book. Purple Pox for example. But the bad ones were baaaad. And rude. Just not what I would recommend to young readers.

Dan Santat's illustrations not only complement but elevate this poetry collection. There were a few of these poems we returned to several times during our library loan period ("Weirdos of the World Unite," "3:00 AM Pee," "My Secret Karate").

This collection is full of irreverent, rude, sarcastic jokes that will crack up kids and parents alike. Sure, maybe there's a few you might not want your kids to emulate, but it will get them thinking and you talking. The artwork by the incomparable Dan Santat makes it all even better. Very fun!

Wow, a surprising amount of negative reviews! I thought this book of poems was funny and silly. Sure, not every single one was amazing, but overall they were quite enjoyable and reminded me of some of the poetry I read as a kid.

In regard to the one poem people seem to have issue with:
Many people who had siblings when they were little may remember constant/lots of fighting and disagreements. I didn't like my little sister until I was a young adult, actually. Research shows that children are able to differentiate between fiction and reality as young as 4 years old, so I highly doubt any child would feel like this clearly joking poem is telling them to off their sibling.
