Shifters, secret societies, vampires, and a bit of romance combined in a well-written, fast-paced series starter. The world building is solid, but the thing that impressed me most was the characters. Not only are Jax and Aerilyn interesting characters, but the secondary characters are equally so, yet there aren't so many that it becomes a chore to keep up with them all. As this is the start of the series, we do have some unanswered questions, but the engaging storyline and wonderfully descriptive writing set the stage for a promising series.

Jax and Aerilyn probably would've never met if it weren't for KT getting attacked. Because of the way Jax grew up he believed he was the only shifter out there and was suddenly thrust into a whole new world surrounded by them. It was sweet of Aerilyn to try and help teach Jax about his new world and to help clear his name. It was funny watching them trying to fight their feelings for each other. Alaric's overbearing and overprotective ways helped save Aerilyn when it really mattered. Deane and Emery's animals were really surprising considering their personalities. Riley got the second chance at life he truly deserved after all the turmoil Ramsey subjected him to. Ramsey totally got what he deserved.
