Solid start to a fantasy trilogy. Lots of lore and texture to keep up with, but the plot of the older timeline makes it easy to get up to speed. Love the dual timeline structure.

Great book. Nice plot. Had mixed feelings. Also, lemme make this clear, not YA. If you are an innocent, impressionable child who looking for an innocent read, run for the hills screaming with your hands in the air. This is not a YA novel in any way, shape or form. It's NOT PG. No way. Other than that, pretty good read.

This is NOT a YA book, this is an adult book.
The potential for a good story is there, but both protagonists are annoying in their own special way and the plot is a liiiitle too thin, I was able to put most of the pieces together quickly. The constant flip flopping gets a little annoying, and also makes it hard to remember everything, especially after a break. The characters are just… FLAT and not very well written. The worldbuilding is both over and underdeveloped, since the magic system is fairly clean but I could not for the life of me place where Eliana was in time. I was shocked when someone pulled a gun. Lots of potential, but I think it’s being lost to unbearable characters.
