I wish I had read the normal version, first, but it was still very enjoyable. Sometimes it was harder to follow along because things were missing or unclear because they were sketches, so reading the finished version might have helped at times, but overall it stands well on its own. I loved the story, the artwork is amazing, and it definitely is a must read if you love Batman.

Good art, some interesting ideas, and got a few chuckles from the comedy that landed, but overall the story arc for this volume made me go "eh okay".
I appreciate getting to see some vulnerability in Bruce and getting to see the JLA show up in Gotham was cool, but I can't help feeling some twists in this felt like they bordered on parody and less like the serious drama it was trying to be.

Adoro las historias de Batman, pero ésta no me convenció, no estoy segura si esto lo leí en otro comic o lo vi en Gotham (perdón, pero ya a esta altura, al consumir este universo en todos los formatos, me hago laguna), pero igual, sentí que ya lo leí y fue aburrido.
El arte gráfico, eso sí, fue hermoso. Y Batman como personaje también me gustó.

Read on Hoopla on the train. Don't know why, but I love Batman. Really enjoyed this entry. I should read the rest in the series.

'Batman, Volume 1: I Am Gotham' by Tom King, David Finch, and a host of other people has Batman facing an unusual challenge: a hero who thinks Gotham should be saved from Batman.
Batman thinks about his secession. He can't be Batman forever, but where does that leave the city? He takes on Duke Thomas, but now there are two new heroes in Gotham: Gotham and Gotham Girl. Their story seems familiar, but they seem to see Batman as an obstacle to saving the city. Batman sees them as potential allies to his fight, but they may be too powerful and too set in their own agenda.
It's a big sweeping story and I liked it quite a bit. The introduction of these two characters is done well, and there are a few villains that serve their purpose. I like how Alfred even has a role to play. There are some nice surprises in this story.

it just doesn't feel like it's a batman book at all... more like a batman-adjacent book... i also find David Finch's work to be a little bland --- wish Mikel Janin would take over the whole arc (would be more interesting)
