These guys take fencing so seriously and they're so dramatic. Suffice it to say, entertaining as hell, and I really enjoy the art style.

C.S. Pacat really knows how to write aloof, uber-competent characters and enemies-to-lovers relationships.

In Fence, we have Seiji Katayama as the untouchable and closed-off fencer who coldly defeats the main character, Nicholas, in competition, which sparks a rivalry between the two. Nicholas is determined to improve his technique and beat Seiji, so he enrolls in a fencing academy and boarding school called Kings Row. His plan is to join the fencing team and compete against Exton Academy, the school that Seiji is rumored to attend. But when Nicholas arrives at Kings Row, he discovers his roommate is none other than...Seiji.

Fence is gripping and very fast paced, and since it's a graphic novel you can properly enjoy how good-looking the characters all are. I also appreciated the attention to technical fencing details--the author either did a lot of research or is involved in the sport in some way. My only complaint really is how short a volume is; I'm a slow reader and finished the first volume in an hour or so, and it was more like an episode than a complete story. I'll definitely be continuing with the next volume to find out what happens.

Sidenote -- big fan of the fencing coach, she and her wall of "things you can't say or else" are awesome.

This was fine. I enjoyed it, but it didn't necessarily change my life.
I do want to continue on in the series though.
