For: snail fans; readers looking for a mildly interactive book with humor.

Possible red flags: characters in peril.

Yes, I am a grown ass woman, with no children, checking out picture books for myself! Escargot is my hero, and I think he is the cutest! Even if you don't like snails now... you will love them after you see this sweet little adventurer!

With a title called "A Book for Escargot," you have to know I found the tie-in for using this in Every Child Ready to Read and "write" and "read." I mean, it seems great!! BUT..........

It wasn't.....

I still liked it. I loved the book titles like "Harry Gastropodder and the Chamber of Salads". Seriously!!! I about spit out my water. And I loved that Escargot was on the quest to find the "perfect recipe" =D But for a book about books, I wanted a glossary for the French words. It would help children with understanding!!

But overall, the book is too long. 2/3 of the way through I was like "we're repeating ourselves." Still, Escargot is loveable. Makes me want a snail.

Sort of.

This was adorable and I am obsessed. Will update if I use as a read aloud to see how it goes? There's some audience interaction bits that could be a lot of fun. (Not sure how my very bad French-esque accent will go over)

The charming snail Escargot is back, this time on a trip to the library to find a cookbook and try a new recipe. Just as in the first book, Escargot's strong voice and indomitable spirit will charm young readers. Try not to pay attention to him defacing library books. Hand to fans of the first or to readers new to Escargot; everyone will want to meet this confident, adorable snail.

I love Escargot! He has such a strong voice for a picture book character-- I can't help but read the whole thing in a French accent. Magnifique! So fun!
