The book was a mess. Seemed to go on forever. Disappointing for a series that started with a bang.
Loved this series, it was great. Must read to experience for yourself.
I binge-read all three of the Penryn and End of Days novels very close together, in the span of 4 days. It makes it difficult to judge each novel, since they sort of blur together when they are binge read. It also makes my reviews more lenient, because I just get totally sucked into the world and am happy at finally knowing the ending.
I did not like End of Days as much as Angelfall or World After. However, I still enjoyed it a lot. I became attached to the characters immediately, and binge-reading just strengthened that attachment. The ending could have had more depth and uniqueness to it. As a whole, I enjoyed the series and I'd recommend it to someone.

I enjoyed this series. I am a sucker for angel stories and this one had a different spin with the angels being the bad guys. I was sucked in from the very beginning and found myself in book 2 before I knew it. Pen's mom I had more trouble with at times I wished she was just left out of the story, but understood she played a significant part in how Pen became so independent. While there is romance and love the story doesn't gush with it there's just enough tension between the main characters that you find yourself rooting for them one minute and then rooting for Pen to have the courage to walk away the next.

Well, I ended up finishing the trilogy simply because I couldn't walk away without seeing how it all wraps up. Book 3 was somewhat redeemable compared to the trainwreck that was book 2, so I'm giving it a lukewarm 2.5. But let's be real… this series as a whole wasn't great and declined massively after book 1.
This story deserved so much more than what it got. The frustrating part is that Susan Ee clearly has the ability to write truly powerful moments of raw emotion. I genuinely felt it when Penryn was paralyzed in Angelfall. I felt it when Raffe first realized Penryn was alive again in World After.
Yet I honestly can't think of a single moment in End of Days that sticks out as emotive or heartfelt. The emotional beats fell completely flat when they should have been reaching their peak. And don't even get me started on Raffe's so-called "declaration of love" 🙄 talk about anticlimactic.
The potential was there from the beginning: a dark post-apocalyptic angel story with genuine stakes and interesting mythology. But the execution ultimately failed to deliver on that promise, with plot points that either dragged endlessly or rushed to unsatisfying conclusions.
Sadly, I wouldn't recommend this series to anyone. Don't waste your time! This will only stand as a series that helps me appreciate the books I actually love by comparison. Sometimes you have to read a disappointing trilogy to recognize what makes other series truly special.
Entertaining, a little cheesy, and so nostalgic. This trilogy was a lot of fun, though I wish it could have been… more.
While the YA genre will always stay close to my heart, I almost wish these books were Adult Fantasy so that the plot could have been given more of a chance at success. The ending felt rushed and I would have preferred a lot more explanations and depth to the world. The potential was there, but the execution fell a little flat.
Still, it was really fricken fun.
