Nora has a terrible secret. It is her fault that her cousin Riley is in the hospital. Riley is not able to walk or talk, and it is all Nora's fault. I think people who liked the book Short by Holly Goldberg Sloan would also enjoy this book.

I read this because one of my students told me it was good. She was right. A great middle school read!

Making good on a promise to an incoming fifth grader that I would read it this summer. I was impressed with how accessible Cronin made the hospital world and lingo - it wasn’t surprising to learn of her personal connection in the acknowledgements. I liked it and the rollercoaster and Riley’s status at the top of the chapters was clever. Burned through it in a day and also stayed up until 11 to finish it.

Part two in the rereading-completely-random-middle-grade-books series! I was just thinking about this book because my friend and I went to an amusement park a couple months ago and I was like “Oh crap I don’t have a stroke” and she was like “I know the exact book you’re talking about!” so I decided to read it again. It was immature as one might expect, but a quick read. I remember loving it so much in eighth grade for no reason.

3.5. A decent MG grief title about a girl who blames herself for her cousin’s sudden stroke. I thought the author addressed such a tricky situation as having a big fight with someone and then something horrific happens to them really well.

Read this within 2days and I loved the storytelling here it wasn’t boring Nora was the worst character and it made me love the book cause I can see how the guilt was eating her and how she realized at the end how selfish she was and repented on her own mistakes although i did wish that there was an ending was a bit more memorable “like tears rolling down my face” moment

This book was okay. Not necessarily well written, but a decent distraction read with an interesting twist at the end.

This was a pretty good book, with an interesting plot, cool writing style and realistic dynamics. Not the best book I found recently, but it's pretty good.
CW: Implied swearing but no actual swearing, traumatic brain injuries, cancer.

A little heavy handed on how bad guilt is and how peer (or cousin) pressure can literally hurt, but otherwise decent YA book about a traumatic injury and how it can bring families together.
