This was pitched as a cozy sci-fi good for fans of Firefly and I could not have been more bored.

4.5. Dr. Chef is the most wholesome character I’ve ever encountered.

The world building in this is incredible, and we get to hop around to different perspectives. Really interesting and thoughtful take on AI & other species interactions

This is kind of the sci-fi version of Legends & Lattes, but the stakes are a bit more intense, and the world-building is a lot more in-depth. The setting was my favourite part of this book, and the characters are super cool when they're introduced! The crew of the Wayfarer is a fun mish-mash of different people
After some time, though, some of the banter feels a tiny bit artificial, and the book falls into a routine. There's not a lot of tension throughout the book, and it doesn't feel like there's a significant driving plot/goal that the book is working towards. Things happen, and you read about them.
The characters, however, are the core of the story - they're varied and pretty interesting, all with their own personalities, quirks, and histories. The story is focused on them and their experience in building a wormhole in a totally new region of the galaxy, which makes for a great way to explore humanity and social ideas and stigmas.
On the whole, I found this book decent, but I found myself wanting more tension and more significant events with longer-lasting consequences. I think this is down to my preference, as opposed to the book being poorly written or something. It's a character-focused story with some super details on the characters and their world, which I enjoyed, but I've realised I personally want a stronger plot in a story.

The blurb at the bottom hits the nail on the head. It’s a beautiful and humane story that has very little action yet never feels boring
