I was very thankful for this energizing & thought-provoking quick read. In an age of "me-centered" culture, Reaching Out was both challenging and refreshing. Nouwen pushed me to think differently about cultivating solitude rather than accepting loneliness... which is super relevant during an isolating pandemic! His chapters on hospitality did make me long for social gatherings but were inspiring too - to keep seeking out and serving others in creative ways.

I don't think I've ever read something from Nouwen that I haven't loved. This was an extremely timely read for me, and very rich while still being easy to read and soak up. I love the focus on progression and growth in this one-- it feels very much like a helpful roadmap to healthier and more abundant living in Christ. Loved this one.

Read this for my Social Work class... I don't agree with some of the stuff that Nouwen says, but he does have some interesting ideas...

Such a depo, thought provoking book on how we can approach lives of faith.

From loneliness to solitude, from hostility to hospitality, from illusion to prayer.
Timely book for me, even though it's been around for ages. Hospitality is kind of in vogue in my Christian circles, but Nowen reminded me that this conversation is nothing new. I also enjoyed the Thomas Merton quotes about the desert.

It’s short but very dense, it will take you longer than expected! Nouwen does a wonderful job of explaining his this movements, and it opens up a world a faith that one would never even consider.
