The “Getaway” by Lamar Giles is a much better book for an end of world trapped in a location story.

I'd heard the term before but never really considered the logistics of it. I guess it would be fatal, wouldn't it? That was a memorable chapter.

What a very unique plot and surprising set of events! And then the WTF moment…holy shoot!

Julia’s job is to oversee a bunker for some rich guy to make sure everything stays in working order in case he needs to hide or the world ends. Her ex-boyfriend, Alec, is camping out on the couch with a butt full of shrapnel from a bombing in Kyiv. They are figuring out how to exist together when the security system warns of something approaching. Since Julia’s job is to protect the bunker, she must go out and see what is coming. She encounters three people: two men and a woman. One of the men is mortally wounded and in need of immediate medical attention. Julia is hesitant to help, but there are supplies in the bunker, so she reluctantly allows them to enter.

Immediately, Julia knows she has made a mistake. These are dangerous people, and Alec cannot be much help when it comes to defending themselves. How did they get to the bunker anyway? It’s surrounded by water. As the terror  is unleashed, Julia and Alec learn that theirs is not the only bunker these people have visited, and they are not the only people named Julia and Alec who have been tormented. Suddenly, the world no longer makes sense.

This was an engaging read. Once the crazy ball got rolling, it didn’t stop until the end. There was one scene that was sexually-explicit and quite disturbing. If that’s not your thing, you have been warned. For those not scared off, this is a short read that packs a punch. I recommend checking this one out!

So...turns out this was a novella, so I finished it pretty quick. My opinion - this should have been a novel because there was too much going on. Everything seemed a bit rushed and the ending was a bit confusing.
