I love chelm stories. My only question was how the heck did the seven branch menorah get past the publisher and author? It is literally a Chanukah story. Oy.

Reading picture books in preparation for Hanukkah (my first since I started talking to a rabbi about converting)! I definitely enjoyed this one! The illustrations were a ton of fun, very modern animation. The humour here is on point, and I definitely got some good and genuine laughs here. It's an original Chelm story rather than one based on existing stories, but it definitely fits with what I know of Chelm stories. It also completely has me ready to consume latkes.

At first, I thought this was a ridiculous book about blindly following the word of religious leaders no matter how badly their advice meshes with reality or your life circumstances. But then I read the ending blurb about the ridiculous stories of Chelm and decided this absurd story was born out of legends that were meant to be just that: ridiculous.
