ladies and gentlemen. it has happened, i have found the perfect romance (for me) everyone stay calm.

✨minor spoilers ahead. but is it really spoilers?? we know the guy gets the girl... so✨

sweet darling sadie never asks for help, she prides herself on it. she is STRUGGLING to make it as an artist, when her big break practically falls into her lap. while trying to juggle the grief of losing her mom, her estranged relationship with her father, and avoiding her evil stepmom and stepsister, she ends up having a nonconvulsive seizure. further complications lead to brain surgery, and even FURTHER complications lead to her having acquired prosopagnosia. long story short, sadie can't see faces anymore. through grief, hardships, grace, love, reconciliation, and help from sue (bestie) and joe (JOE!!!!!) sadie learns more about herself, people outside of their faces, LOVE, and that asking for help can bring copious amounts of joy to all involved.
JOE & SADIE FOREVER. NO ONE LET THEM BREAK UP.

brb gotta go read all of katherine center's work :)

4.25 stars.

This was a feel-good romance book that I needed to read at this time. The story revolves around Sadie, a portrait artist who after an accident and following brain surgery, is diagnosed with acquired Prosopagnosia- or face blindness. This is right after getting her big break from being accepted to participate in a prestigious portrait painting contest. Needless to say, this condition makes this seem impossible and on top of it shes dealing with her dog getting sick and an evil stepsister moving into her apartment building. However, she receives some help in the form of a handsome veterinarian saving her dog Peanut and a helpful neighbor who is always there at the right time.

Center has a way of writing about tough topics (dealing with loss of a parent, medical diagnosis's, etc.) in a lighthearted way. The majority of the book felt more like contemporary fiction to me rather than a romance but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I've never heard of face blindness and she definitely did her research on the condition. There is a HEA and in all the book gives you all the good feels.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

This book is truly one of the best romances I've ever read. The characters were fantastic, and their dynamics were so fascinating. Especially the MC, she was honestly so relatable. The writing style was so honest that you just automatically fell in love with the MC. The author was able to mix pure cheesy joy and hard topics all in one, and it was done beautifully. Also, the plot was just so interesting. It's not often that a romance novel feels original, but this did. Overall, I just thought this book was so good. The main characters had perfect chemistry, and I was rooting for them the whole time! This book feels so unashamedly 'girlhood' core. It's cheesy, and silly, and hopeful, and there's beauty in all of that! It's not perfectly realistic, but that's why it's so good. The courage to just let yourself be drawn into the story, and allow yourself to just enjoy it makes all the difference. Also, the authors note at the end was the best I've ever read

Lovable main couple with a plausible reason for their ups and downs. Most of the secondary characters fell flat though, and some were hardly developed beyond plot points.
