The end is finally here, and what an ending it was. I thought that I had seen how intense the battles and how beautiful the dialogue could be, but I was not prepared for this ending and its jaw-dropping moments. This ending is truly unforgettable in so many ways. It’s gut-punching and bittersweet at some moments, but I will treasure it.

The build up to the Itto-Ryu’s downfall is a gorgeous tragedy. No one comes out unscathed at the bitter end, though I was satisfied with the ending almost every character met.

Each battle was glorious and relentless. There were standout moments from Antsou and Manji, and even Rin, which are among the most incredible spectacles I’ve ever seen on a page. But the one that stood out the most was Makie.

Makie is a character I wish we’d seen more of. Not only is she a tragic hero with an amazing story to tell, she is one of the fiercest warriors I’ve ever seen. She and Antsou had a tender, heartbreaking relationship, and seeing them together for the last time completely broke me.

I am completely in love with these books. The good moments, the bad, and the ugly. This is a series I expected much from, and it gave me more than I could ever dream of. A fantastic ending with memorable characters, stunning action scenes, and a beautifully written story. A must have for all manga, historical, and samurai fans!

i live in a constant state of nothing but misery, pain, and sorrow. i could die now and it wouldn’t be soon enough. getting shot to the head would cause me less physically and emotional pain than this. my reasons for living are shallow and not worth it anymore.

This is a series that I started in 2018. This final chapter of the series was a bittersweet departure, for me, from this world. By the end having found so many characters loveable with their flaws and tragic stories I did cry. If you are on the this volume I assume you enjoy the story/character enough to see it through to its resolution. Let this review inform you that this conclusion is well worth the journey.
