Eddings keeps up the quality in the fourth book of the series. We get a lot more time with Princess Ce'Nedra and Polgara, which make for some interesting reading. Can't write much more of a review without spoilers, so just consider this one a recommend (but not a solo book).

I struggled to finish reading this book. All the issues with the previous books only got worse here. And to add to it, the story came to a complete standstill halfway into the book. Somehow, the characters have gotten more annoying this time and the lack of progress in the story only added to the annoyances. Even though it was hard to believe that Garion couldn't see what was coming (especially when everyone around him did and he had numerous hints along the way), it was fine until the rest of the story was interesting. But this time, when we finally got him to where he was heading, it was a total dud. The same goes with the other characters. Each has become progressively more annoying. I'm not sure if I'll read the next one.
