Castle of Wizardry
The Belgariad #4
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4.25
Definitely enjoyed more than the previous book and I loved that we got Ce’Nedra’s perspective - what a whimsical, spunky character.
At first in the series I didn’t like the way the woman were shown to be weaker and less able but this book definitely showed how strong women could be and how they could take initiative and also influence and manipulate from behind the scenes.
I’m looking forward to completing the series in the next book, but I am starting to feel like I know where the plot is headed which is always disappointing. However with such a long series based on a choice of two prophecies, I guess that was kind of inevitable.

Just as parts 1-3, the rating of three stars is heavily influenced by this being my absolute favorite book series in my teens. If I read this the first time now, it would probably have gotten only 1-1,5 stars. The damaging gender stereotypes are just too frequent.
I do still LOVE the story in itself though. It is full of cliches and a traditional good vs evil, black and white story, but I don't mind. It would be a nice getaway from reality, if I didn't get annoyed every other page as how women are treated and portrayed. Lady Polgara in particular keeps getting on my nerves. She's absolutely horrible!

It is enjoyable to see where things are going, but the journey does seem a bit more of the same at this point.

3 star - good
2 star - struggled to complete
1 star - could not finish
