Minik, an Eskimo boy, and his father were brought to New York to be put on display at the Museum of Natural History. When his father contracts consumption, Minik is suddenly orphaned and alone. As he grows up (the story is told via his flashbacks), Minik never gets over his sense of lonliness and despair. He tries, over and over again, to return to Greenland with his father's remains. This narrative jumps around and may confuse some teens not used to the nonlinear nature of the plot, but the story is worth reading and well told, if depressing. Based on true events.
