Story: Brutus (H) rescues Laurel (h) after the boat she wan on sinks. A Mer (merman), Brutus takes her to the underwater kingdom of Atlantes where he lives. As her rescuer, Brutus now serves as her guardian, and even though she has many other Mer suitors, he wants Laurel for himself. Plenty of hot and steamy action between Laurel and Brutus with their intense chemistry. Brutus may be an alpha hunter but he's really sweet with Laurel. Action, drama, adventure and always lots of humor in the books in this series. Loved this one and all the hot and steamy action.

Audio: The audiobook uses a single narrator for the story - which often causes me to complain about how much I dislike a female narrator trying to do male voices, but not the case this time! I actually really enjoyed the female narrator in this audiobook, and felt she did a really good job with both the female and male voices. I listen to these in the care and always make sure the windows are up so as not to shock others in vehicles near me.

A very quick read, that's probably best to read after the first three. It wasn't the greatest but it's my guilty pleasure, it's trashy and shallow and I love it.

However my main issue with this book is it took me an hour and a half to read and I paid £3.50 for it (discounted from £6)! If you are going to charge that for a book put a bit more effort into it. I know that authors need to eat too but I feel a bit ripped off.

This book follows Brutus who saves Laurel and as he tries to be honest about where she is he proceeds in frightening her. When there’s an attack on the dome Laurel knows she has to transform and go to help Brutus . The story carries through from book 1 where the psychotic queen and her crazy followers are trying to overthrow the dome and the king and I can’t wait until someone ends the queen and her crazies .

How does an author go from entertaining to boring as a series goes along? The events happen to fast. It all feels rushed and forced. I cared little about either character; if she'd had both twins share her, it could have made it better. There was so little background. There was nothing to get invested in, except getting a brief glimpse of Bridget ' s triplets.

It's shorter than I was expecting. I liked Brutus although the relationship felt very shallow.

Brilliant

Another great story from this collection. All the characters are so likable and the underlying narrative of the Olympians is really starting to gather pace. Can't wait to read the next one.

Brutus is a Hunter, from the sunken Atlantis. He saves those in peril of drowning and those who have no hope of rescue he transports to his world. He and his brothers Riegel and Demon fight the scylla and are at odds with the mermaids (known as Olympians) who share their land but cause them no end of trouble! Brutus is..well he's blunt and to the point and about as subtle as a brick over the head. but in saying that he is a sympathetic character, dealing with his loneliness the best he can.

When out on patrol he is bopped on the head by a cooler and then finds Laurel floating in the water. She hits her head and he realises that she has been left for dead and takes her home with him.

Laurel waked up and thinks she's on an islandnd just needs to contact the Embassy to get her home. Little does she know that she's on her way to becoming a permanent resident! She becomes alarmed as every male she meets wants to court her. She is used to turning heads but this is ridiculous!!!

I did enjoy the earlier books in this series. I did struggle to like Laurel however, I'm not sure what she brought other than a pretty face. The other heroines at least were useful in their new world. But Brutus was entirely lovable and I really loved his bluntness - there are no frills on this boy!

I received an ARC for an honest review.

Much Better Protagonist

The whole Lords of the Abyss series is just a fun, simple read, but I like Laurel a lot better than I've liked any of the protagonists of the series so far. She comes across as much more self sufficient, and the relationship seems more like an actual romance than the others. And she's snarky. I love the snark. :)
