Not bad. Well produced and well narrated. Elides the years from before Revenge of the Sith right up until just before Rogue One. But most of the book seemed like a series of meetings. At one point, one of the meetings turned into a battle, but it was more of a one-sided pasting. Still, if you're a completist, you could do worse.

Fun thing: There's a brief reference to this new and up and coming entity known as The Corporate Sector. Longtime readers of the early Star Wars novels will remember this as the setting for Brian Daley's Exploits of Han Solo novels, back when SW books were still a bit of a curiosity and not part of the IP/marketing timeline.

Fantastic book. Rogue One is my favorite Star Wars film and this is a must read for anyone who enjoys the movie. It is a deep dive into the characters of Galen, Lyra, and Orsen with cameos by Tarkin and Saw. It expands on the mysticism surrounding the Kyber crystals as well as why so many people supported the Empire upon its conception event if they were against the war. They saw the empire as a force for good that would prevent anything like the Clone Wars from ever happening again. They saw the senate as a corrupt body of politicians that did nothing and welcomed an emperor that made decisions quickly and moved things along as a good thing.

Rogue One is my favorite SW movie so I eagerly picked up this book. Unfortunately, it fell very flat to me. I realized my favorite parts of Rogue One are Jyn and Cassian and without them, this story is not very interesting. I was really hoping to see a different side of Krennic but nother really surpised me about his actions. Overall, this was meh.

I'd hoped this would be more about the Erso family and less about Krennic and Tarkin, but alas. My notes say this took four days for me to get through, but it felt like a lot longer. It was a story well-told, and it did its job well enough (as a prequel to Rogue One), but I wasn't ever really excited to pick it back up again. 2.5
