Easily top 3 Star Wars novels I’ve read so far. I LOVE GALEN AND KRENNIC SO MUCH
Oh I love this book soo much. It's political ans super nerdy and everything I wanted to know about the creation of the Death Star but more about Krennic and Tarkin and the games they played against each other. Of course there are similarities in the growing of the empire and some of the things that the current administration is doing. But enough about that. This was a very good book.

I’ve held off on this novel for too many years I finally caved and bought a copy. I instantly regretted ignoring it for so long, this is one of the best books of the new Star Wars canon

really informative but i wanted more.
the relationship between krennic and the ersos was a highlight. krennic manipulating galen, lyra being a badass and her interactions with krennic. the stuff with has obitt was the weakest part of the book. i wanted more scenes about the internal politics of the empire. this is where the book lacked imo: it needed to flesh out the internal workings of the death star’s construction.

I heard, or maybe I read someone say-- this was like a pointless episode of Clone Wars. First off-- no chapter of a saga is pointless. Each thread in the arc is a stepping stone to the greater picture, and this story is no different. In fact in all these books, are key elements that reach for the new trilogy I'm finding. Which makes me further believe everything that happened was planned so very long ago. And it speaks to the level of care they take with this verse.
This was by no means an "exciting story" but it spoke to the levels of gaslighting and manipulation that the ones in the empire used to get what they needed. How it attracted those that had no other place to go so they found power in this brute force.
The creation of the Death Star was a horribly tragic story. The hunger to instill fear because we can't be trusted with our own freedom-- what a eerie concept. It made me empathize with the Ersos so much more. And I'm glad that I read this piece of the puzzle.

Audiobook: The beginning was a bit boring but it really picked up about halfway through. I loved getting to see what led up to the events of Rogue One and hearing more about the Erso's story. It does get very political (it is Star Wars lol) but the politics are actually pretty interesting. Overall, I enjoyed listening to this one on Audible!
