The story lends some depth to the relationship between Galen Erson & Orson Krennic. You get to know Lyra Erso as well, which is nice, since she was almost a throwaway character in Rogue One. As expected, Luceno excels at writing the bad guys - Krennic & Tarkin POV chapters are the best parts of the book IMO. I was hoping for a little bit more Saw Gerrera, but then again, so was everybody who saw Rogue One :P

Excellent lead-up to Rogue One. This story is told from the perspective of Jyn's parents (Galen and Lyra Erso), Orson Krennic, and Has Obitt (a Dresselian smuggle who ends up in the middle of the plot and through which Saw Gerrara is introduced to the Erso's).
Catalyst clears up a lot of questions such as: Who was Krennic to Galen? How did Galen even get involved with the Death Star to begin with? What prompted him to leave the project? What does it have to do with Saw Gerrara? What happened to Geonosis after the death of Archduke Poggle the Lesser?
It's a great read also. I think that someone not super interested in Star Wars could enjoy the book.

As much as I love stories of the mystical Jedi and Sith, it's a refreshing change to dive into the lives of non-force sensitive characters. I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Looking forward to reading Rogue One next!
It was good, but not much action. Well written, but there were very few characters I actually liked, even though I was familiar with most of them. A good prequel to Rogue One, if you can get through it without falling asleep.
