This one was not as good as the last two. I think the introduction of the mom into the group dynamic shifted things in a way I didn't particularly enjoy. There were some great moments with her and Emily but beyond those one ir two scenes I really would have been happier without her.

Trellis is really growing on me as a character. Max I did not like as a character. The super obvious foreshadowing of him talking about how much he is going to enjoy having a ton of power was, as mentioned, super obvious and made him instantly unlikable. Normally I don't mind an unlikeable character but with how prevalent all the characters are, you can't escape the ones you don't like even for a page or two. There really aren't side characters in the traditional way.

Overall, the story was good and compelling I just felt it was missing some of the magic and the faster pacing from the previous books. I'm hoping book 4 will remedy that.

{My thoughts} – Emily and Navin are on a quest to get to Cielis. It is said that the city was destroyed many years back by orders of the Elf King. The research that her grandfather had been doing up until a week before his death, however, proves that it is possible the city still exists and they are told that is where they most go to continue on with their mission.

The find a captain and a ship and some unlikely allies and head on their way. They have some trial and error as they are traveling. They have a number of close encounters, but eventually they do find a light at the end of the tunnel.

If you are interested in finding out if they make it to the city of Cielis you should really read this book. Also, the unlikely allies, are a fun twist on the story. I look forward to reading the next book in this series very soon!
