I was planning on taking a break after the first Thrawn, but decided to start the 2nd one just to get a taste... once I saw it was a Vader + Thrawn book I couldn't put it down! Shit was crazy. First one was better comparatively, but this one was still super good. The new Tie fighters were literally PROPOSED in the new Tales of the Empire series that was released less than a week ago so that was cool seeing that the Empire actually did end up using them. Ugh I guess I gotta read the 3rd one now, and I think the newer Thrawn trilogy takes place before this trilogy?? So much mystery around the Chiss that I'm dying to hear about how Thrawn became Thrawn b4 the Empire. The dual Thrawn + Anakin and Thrawn + Vader was super interesting. I like Thrawn?? am i supposed to??? idk we'll see what he does in book 3. treason.........

Not as enticing as the first book. I now find Anakin/Darth Vader more annoying, and I’m sad that Eli was not in this book.

Not enough Thrawn in the story. He seemed to be a secondary character at times.

I definitely preferred the first book.

~Things I liked~
°the bantering between Vader and Thrawn
°the parallels between the two timelines and how they kept mirroring each other
°the overall darker tone in regards to war
°the exploration of Thrwans morality (what a funky bastard he is, huh)

~Things I didn't like~
°the convoluted story with way too many things happening and nothing making sense for basically the entire book
°there were far fewer "Thrawn is a clever fucker" moments than in the first book
°I generally preferred the layout of the first book where it was 'somebody tells Thrwans he's shit, he goes above and beyond to prove them wrong'

Without spoilers you really see the psychological shift of one character. You also get to see another well known character in their element kicking ass and taking names. You also get an insight into the level of Thrawn's observational powers, in contrast with his lacking interpersonal skills. It shows his softer side too. Great follow up to the first book.
