A very interesting concept of life in space. I liked this adventure thriller.

Ages 11+ (a few not-seen on tv curses)

Youth sci-fi has been way too populated with dystopias and has far too few spaceships trying to eliminate their humans. Jinks' new book tries to rectify that imbalance. Super gross, full of mucus and slime and mechanical-turned-to-biological (with more than a few gory deaths) this is a fabulous adventure for sixth graders and beyond.

I bought this book years ago, as it sounded great. I love YA sci-fi, and anything with a colonial space ship setting immediately has my attention. However...
This book is quite short, and therefore doesn't spend enough time developing the characters and unique elements of the story (such as the OTVs) to give me a realistic idea in my head of them. Things are introduced and changed so quickly that I struggled to keep track of who was doing what, and who was related to whom.
There was a LOT of jargon and complicated technological info in dialogue that I doubt the characters of their portrayed ages would actually comprehend, let alone come up with, despite their clearly technical upbringing.
I've read similar books, such as Illuminae, and Arc, that go into more detail and fully develop the characters without a loss of pace or story.

This as all right. A pretty standard plot with pretty standard action and a pretty standard moral. And I would really have liked it if there had been more deaths closer connected to the narrator. But it was still a good, quick read.

I felt like I was reading a children's book without any humor in it. This book was just too ridiculous. This could've been an eerie story, but it was just too far-fetched. What a waste of time.

Not bad, not that great. I was underwhelmed by the Reformed Vampire Support Group and had a similar reaction to this. Interesting but nothing stellar.

A fast-paced sci-fi thriller in which author Jinks places a handful of survivors on a spaceship after a collision in space with a radiation wave makes suprising changes to the ship. To say more would spoil the plot and give away a terrific read. The main character has surprising depth and insight for a 17-year old narrator. Despite the rather grim plot line, the book is balanced and filled with enough hope and excitement that you aren't left feeling despondent. The clever premise really makes this book one of the better sci-fi books I've read lately.

Great book. A biologically minded science fiction horror. Though the science is a bit rough around the edges you won't notice unless you're in a grad program for Biology/Medicine. I considering offer it to my kids as an extra credit book for sophomore Biology
